Trucker Dudes: How to Make Sure Your Truck is Properly Outfitted with the Right Tires

Making sure the right tires are on your truck can benefit you in a number of ways. The first is safety- the wrong tires can lead to blowouts, spinouts, and accidents. Not to mention the problems your truck will have off-road with the wrong tires. While many overlook the importance of good tires, they do this at their own peril. Tires are where the rubber meets the road- literally- and thus are an incredibly important part of safely driving your vehicle. Selecting the right tires can be confusing, even for experienced gearheads. In this guide, we will show you how to make sure your truck is properly outfitted with the right tires.

Determine Your Tire Needs

Different tires are necessary depending on a few factors. The amount you drive, where you drive, and the speed at which you drive all come in to play. If your truck hardly spends any time off-road you will need a different type of tire compared to a dedicated mudder.

For most city driving you will want a tread with a medium tread and midlevel size. You can go bigger, of course, and many people choose to put large off-road tires on their city vehicles. This will decrease your gas mileage and have other effects on the longevity of your truck.

Generally, the two things that will change on a tire are the size and the tread. The deeper the tread the more traction control. You need more traction when driving on rocky, rural roads, in snow, rain or other inclement weather. Using the wrong tread of tire for your daily use could end up with a tire blowout, car accident, or worse.

Choose a Quality Tire Brand

Many auto experts liken tires to having a good bed. If you rest on something- it better be quality. Your entire vehicle and you and your family rest upon your car tires, so you want to make sure that you have the highest quality available. Toyo tyres are incredibly popular and much loved by truck enthusiasts. There are also many other different brands that are excellent. They constantly run specials at tire stores, so it is not uncommon to get a high-end brand for a relatively cheap price.

When it comes to errands, tire shopping isn’t the worst place to be. As long as you follow basic safety procedures and use tires that are appropriate for your driving style, region, and vehicle you should have no problem.
