Overlooked Car Repairs: Unique or Exotic Parts for a More Efficient Vehicle

Regardless of your ride, there are many different things that you can do to upgrade its efficiency. Many of these changes will depend on the make and model, but where possible, they will increase the number of times that you can pass a gas station without needing to stop keeping more money in your pocketbook. Here are some modifications that you may want to consider. 

Change Your Tires 
Installing low-rolling-resistance tires is a great place to start with increasing your car's efficiency. Understand, however, that you will have a rougher ride and that there is likely to be more road noise if your car did not come with low-rolling-resistance tires in the first place. Look for tires where silica has been added to the rubber mixture when the tires were made. Additionally, tires with thinner tread depth. Finally, find tires with a thinner sidewall as they will weigh less and offer less rolling resistance increasing your fuel economy. 

Put in a High-flow Air Filter 
Replacing the standard air filter on your car with one that lets more air into your engine helps your fuel economy. The science behind this is quite simple because the more air that gets in, the less room there is for gas. If you want to take this idea to an extreme, then consider installing a customized cold-air intake kit as these kits are designed to bring in cold air from the outside increasing the car's performance without requiring any more fuel. 

Install a New Exhaust System 
If the exhaust system on your current car has narrow pipes and tight bends, then you may want to consider replacing it with one that has larger pipes and fewer bends. Your current exhaust system may be backing up fumes into the engine making it have to work harder cutting down on your fuel efficiency. Be careful, however, if you live in a state that has tight emission controls as making this modification can make your car fail inspection. Also, you may use a hermetic cable harness to seal your fuel system and make it more efficient.

Change Your Gear Differential 
If your car has a manual transmission, then making your fifth gear taller can help. Making this modification will decrease your RPMs when going at highway speeds causing your vehicle to use less gas. Even if you cannot make this modification, driving in the highest gear that does not put extra stress on your engine increases your gas mileage. 

There are many ways that you can increase your gas mileage. While you are waiting to make these modifications until a buddy can help you, drive as smoothly as possible. Keep your speed under control as going fast causes your vehicle to use more gas. Finally, use an app that lets you see current road conditions because sitting in traffic can hurt your gas mileage.
